Drunk man drowns during picnic in Isabela River

Ilagan, Isabela - A 20-year-old drunk man drowned on Sunday, Sept. 10, during a picnic in Abuan River in Ilagan, Isabela.


The casualty was identified as Johnsen Pabro, a resident of Naguilian, Isabela.

Pabro, along with his two friends, allegedly had a drinking session while having a picnic in said river on said day.

While intoxicated with alcoholic drinks, Pabro and one of his friends went swimming and they were dragged by the strong water current into a deep portion of the river.


Pabro’s friend managed to save himself while the victim drowned.


Friends of the victim informed authorities about the incident, prompting them to proceed to the area.


While his body was retrieved by authorities, Pabro was already lifeless when discovered. Rescue teams tried to revive him and rushed him to the hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival.


Following the incident, the Isabela police now remind the public to avoid swimming in the river when drunk.
