Drunk man run over by truck in Bokawkan, Baguio City

Baguio City, Philippines – “Sayang ti biyag.”

This is what the Camdas Police Station Chief, PMAJ Manuel Canipas Jr. has to say when an intoxicated man died after he was run over by a truck at a vacant lot in Bokawkan, Baguio City.

The incident happened around Tuesday night, Dec. 27, to dawn. It was at 5 a.m. of the following day that the lifeless body of Juan Orig Wandas, a resident of Ampucao, Itogon, Benguet was discovered.

“Diay biktima ket kasla ngay narumek diay left nga luppo na ken adda ti marka ti pilid ti lugan from chest to abdomen. Yun yung indicator na talagang dinalanan ti lugan diay bagi na,” Camdas police chief stated.

Marzan Cantores, the truck driver who was considered as a person of interest, surrendered to the authorities and admitted that he did not check the surroundings before he brought out the truck which was then loaded with cement. He said he was unaware that he had run down Wandas.

In his interview with the police, Wandas’ friend said he had a habit of sleeping anywhere when drunk.

With the incident, Canipas reminded the public to safety themselves when drinking liquor.

“Dagiti kakabsat tayo nga mananginum, han tayo met maabak ti arak. Hinay-hinay lang. Nu adda ti ugali tayo nga kasdiay nga makaliplipat tayo nu mabartek tayo, i-safety tayo umuna ti bagbagi tayo sakbay tayo nga agplano nga agbartek. Han tayo nga diay naginum tayo kumkumpurmi ti ayan tayo ta sayang ti biyag,” he reiterated.

Authorities are studying the CCTV footage in the area as part of their investigation.
