Writer: Christian MalnawaChristian Malnawa

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Disaster preparedness and response operations in the region will now be intensified with the plan of erecting three satellite warehouses in lots donated by three local government units in the region.

Department of Social Welfare and Development Cordillera Regional Director Leo Quintilla said that, as of the moment, three local government units in the region have already donated lots to the agency, thus, preparation of plans for constructing warehouses in said areas is now ongoing.

Donated lands are from Luna and Conner LGUs in Apayao and the provincial government of Ifugao located in Lagawe.

When built, the warehouses will be utilized to store food supplies provided by the agency which will later augment the relief supply of local government units in need.

The regional director said that in addition to family food packs, the soon-to-be-erected warehouses will also be used to store non-food supplies such as hygiene kits, kitchen kits, family kits, sleeping kits, family tents, modular tents, and laminating bags.

Likewise, this shall also benefit Cordillerans residing in Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDA).

GIDA refers to ‘areas that are isolated due to distance or geographical isolation, weather conditions and lack of modes of transportation.’
