DTI-Cordillera launches IMPAKABSAT regional trade fair in Baguio to market local products

Baguio City, Philippines – To showcase local products to be marketed to consumers helping local businesses in the region, DTI-CAR launched IMPAKABSAT: regional trade fair on July 16 at Atrium, SM Baguio.

Said effort from the department aimed at supporting the Macro, Small, and Medium Enterprises to boost their sales.

The event operates for a month from July 16 until August 19, 2022.

DTI-CAR Director Juliet Lucas said the regional fair is a yearly event highlighting the ingenious and innovative products that can only be found in Cordillera.

The activity is under the program of DTI-CAR in partnership with SM Baguio and Local Government Units in the Region.

The products displayed in the said trade fair include locally made furniture and fixtures, woodcraft, bamboo craft, loom woven products, fresh and processed foods, gifts, housewares and decors, organic and natural products, and fashion accessories.

Provinces were provided schedules for the month long event: the province of Abra from July 16 to 22, Apayao and Mountain Province from July 23 to 29, Baguio City and Benguet from July 30 to August 5, Ifugao from August 6 to 12, and Tabuk City and Kalinga province from August 13 to 19.

During his visit to the fair, Congressman Mark Go praised the DTI and MSMEs for developing innovative strategies for promoting locally produced products and showcasing Cordilleran culture.

“You are more than just businessmen and businesswomen; you are protectors of our culture and heritage. To all of our participating MSMEs from different provinces, may you continue to inspire us through IMPAKABSAT and beyond,” said the congressman.

Meantime, the DTI-CAR asked the public to support and buy local products in the region.

How IMPAKABSAT conceptualized

IMPAKABSAT trade fair was conceptualized a year after the 1990 “Killer earthquake” left Baguio City and other affected provinces in ruins.

The IMPAKABSAT idea provided Cordillera a chance to recover from the said crisis.

The name itself stands for the six provinces of Cordillera, namely Ifugao, Mountain Province, Abra, Kalinga, Apayao, Benguet, and the City of Baguio and Tabuk.

Apart from this, the word IMPAKABSAT was completed by the Ilocano term ‘kabsat’ which means brother or sister.

It likewise emphasizes the cultures and friendships of the different provinces in the region.
