Earthquake knocks down building in Benguet killing construction worker


Benguet, Philippines – A construction worker in La Trinidad, Benguet was killed after a 2- storey building collapsed due to the earthquake that shook the province this morning of July 27, 2022.


The man was said to be working with his co-workers in the basement of the building when the quake happened, causing some debris to fall on him.


The man, according to his co-laborers, tried to run outside, but he was trapped and moments later, the building collapsed.


The victim was identified as Aron Cul-iteng, 25, from Cervantes, Ilocos Sur but presently resides in Pinsao, Baguio City.

Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office of Benguet, 1st Benguet Mobile Force Company, La Trinidad Fire Station, and other volunteers immediately conducted a search and rescue operation to retrieve the victim’s body.


PDRRMO-Benguet reported they recorded 2 casualties and 2 injured injuries following the earthquake.


The deaths are recorded in La Trinidad and Tuba, while the injuries are from Bakun and Kibungan.

Meantime, PIO Benguet said the Provincial Response Team, together with the different MDRRMOs are taking necessary measures to ensure the safety of the public.


Benguet Representative Eric Yap assured immediate responses and assistance to those affected by the quake.
