Egay-affected families in Tinglayan get P25k cash aid

Updated: Sep 7, 2023

Tinglayan, Kalinga - While restoring damaged shelters remains a challenge and requires a long-term plan and financing, a short-term intervention is necessary to protect typhoon victims from further exposure to hazards.

For such reason, the local government of Tinglayan through the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office awarded P25,000 cash assistance to five families whose houses were partially damaged in the municipality.

In a press release, the municipal government relayed each family received P5,000. The aid was personally handed by Municipal Mayor Sacrament Gumilab Tuesday, September 5.

The assistance, as noted by the municipal government is funded through the Emergency Shelter Assistance of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

The program is intended to assist disaster-affected families in obtaining decent shelter. It is made available to families whose homes have been completely or partially wrecked by either natural or man-made calamities.

Mayor Gumilab, in a statement, told the recipients to utilize said amount for its intended purpose.

He added the amount might not be enough for the repair of the typhoon victim’s houses but he is hopeful that it could at least hasten their recovery, being one of those impacted by the typhoon.

To recall, Typhoon Egay during its occurrence in Northern Luzon last July, destroyed 335 shelters in Kalinga. Six of these were fully dismantled.
