Elderly man killed, 12 hurt as ‘kuliglig’ flips in Abra

Abra, Philippines – An elderly man died while 12 others were hurt when a tractor-drawn trailer (kuliglig) overturned along Abra-Kalinga road, particularly at Sitio Nagpawayan, Barangay Subagan, Licuan-Baay, Abra on Saturday, March 25, 2023.

The ‘kuliglig’ carrying 14 passengers was traversing the road when it lost its brake. The driver opted to turn the vehicle on the right side of the road, causing for it to flip over, the Licuan-Baay police through the Public Information Office of Police Regional Office – Cordillera reported.

Victims were rushed by responding authorities to Abra Provincial Hospital but Molino Sabado, 65, was pronounced dead on arrival due to severe injuries.

Police identified injured victims as Gemma Sigabu Gudtan, 52; Mario V. Gudtan, 54; Jackson Cayyung, 34; Anita M. Zapata, 69; Delfin Tandingan, 61; Marcelino T. Baola, 64; and Benito Baula, 26. They are still being treated at the hospital, as of writing.

Meanwhile, other victims namely, Oswald Zapata, 33; Carlo jay Amado, 30; Arthur P. Buyao, 28; and two minors sustained minor injuries and were already sent home.

The 43-year-old driver - Jafer Ramirez Tangonan was taken to Licuan-Baay Municipal Police Station for documentation and proper disposition.
