Old woman in Isabela dies in tragic road accident

Isabela, Philippines – An elderly woman reportedly died after being hit by a utility van on Sunday evening, May 14.

The incident involving the 75-year-old victim identified as Antonia Ibay of Santiago City and a Foton Tornado Utility Van driven by Jonel Daquioag, 43, resident of San Mariano, Isabela happened along the national highway in Soyung, Echague, Isabela.

Echague Police Chief, PMaj. Rogelio Natividad told Bombo Radyo Cauayan that the involved vehicle was traversing the road going to Santiago City when it moved aside to give way to the bus that signaled to overtake.

On the process of moving towards the side of the road, the van accidentally hit the elderly victim who was said to be standing at the shoulder lane of the national highway.

The 75-year-old suffered severe injuries after she was dragged under the van.

Ibay was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician at the hospital while Daquioag who claimed he didn’t see the victim because the area was dark, was brought to police custody.
