Elderly woman found dead in Cagayan rice field

Amulung, Cagayan – The body of a senior citizen was found in a rice field at Zone 07, Calamagui, Amulung, on Monday, September 4.

Around 3:30 PM on said date, Amulung police along with the town’s disaster risk reduction management office responded near Amulung Bypass Road for a report regarding the discovery of a body from a barangay official in the area.

When they got there, they saw the lifeless body of an elderly woman who was wearing an orange dress and was lying on the rice paddy.

The corpse was said to be that of Maria Paula Battong, 69, a resident of Baculud, Amulung. She was positively identified by her sibling, Danilo Battung.

In the investigation made, the victim left her house 1 PM on said date to visit his brother’s house in Calamagui but failed to reach her supposed destination. It was after some hours that her body was discovered dead by some residents in the area.

Her remains are now at their residence in Zone 4, Baculud, Amulung.

To recall, a dead body was also discovered in another barangay in said town Wednesday last week.

The corpse was found floating at the Cagayan River in Anquiray, Amulung and was identified as Lomar Fenix, a fisherman from Sta. Isabel Sur, Ilagan City, Isabela.
