Elementary School teacher shot dead in Cagayan

Cagayan, Philippines – While on his way home, an elementary school teacher was shot on the head several times in Alcala on Monday, May 08, 2023.

The victim, Nicanor Dela Cruz, a teacher at Carallangan Elementary School, was on board a boat when the incident transpired, Alcala Police Chief, PMaj. George Maribbay revealed through the Cagayan Provincial Information Office.

Back then, Dela Cruz was waiting for his fellow passengers when the suspect described to be wearing a cap and a ‘balabal’ approached him and asked if he was ‘Nick’.

When the victim confirmed it was him, the gunman allegedly drew his firearm and shot him six times in the head which caused his immediate death.

The suspect was said to have left the crime scene with the victim’s bag and joined his supposed accomplice who was waiting for him on a motorcycle.

Maribbay said they already have a person of interest and that further investigation on the case is still ongoing.
