No one knew a 44-yr.-old man in Sto. Niño, Cagayan was dead until a barangay official smelled something strange

Sto. Niño, Cagayan – Were it not for the smelly odor of his remains, an engineer could not have been known to be dead by his own family.

The victim, identified as Richard Bunagan, 44, and a resident of Tuguegarao City, was found Friday morning, September 20, already in a decomposing state by a barangay official who was on duty at the barangay hall of Nammucayan, Sto. Niño.

The boarding house of the victim is just located at the back of the barangay hall. When the barangay official smelled the foul odor, he immediately looked for its source.

He came across the room of the victim while searching and when he opened the door, he was shocked seeing the victim lifeless and was lying face down near his bed.

He immediately contacted authorities to inform them of what he discovered.

Police later came to the area to investigate, and put the victim’s body to a post-mortem examination.

While the reason of his death remains a mystery, an investigation revealed that the victim was suffering from hypertension. Police added the victim was under the influence of alcohol when he died.

Police likewise reported that Bunagan had no wounds when found, making them conclude that the cause of his death might be his existing medical condition.
