Ex-soldier in Cagayan arrested for possession of illegal drugs, explosive

Sanchez Mira, Cagayan – Authorities found suspected drugs and an explosive at the residence of an ex-soldier in Tokitok, Sanchez Mira, Cagayan, on Monday, August 28.


The contraband and grenade were discovered through a search warrant issued by Executive Judge Gemma Madrid of the Second Judicial Region, RTC, Branch 12, Sanchez Mira, Cagayan on August 24.

The suspect was identified by police as alias "Ed", 55, a resident of Tokitok, Sanchez Mira.


Confiscated from the suspect were six packs of suspected shabu, four packs containing residue of same substance, and drug paraphernalia.


The confiscated illegal drugs weigh more or less seven grams, which amounts to P47,600.


Meanwhile, a rifle grenade was also discovered in the suspect's residence.


The confiscated contraband was already brought to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Group's Special Operation Units for documentation and proper disposition.

As for the suspect, he will be facing charges for violating RA 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and RA 9516. or the Illegal Possession of Explosives Act.


In a statement, PBGEN Christopher Birung, Acting Regional Director of Cagayan Valley Police, said they will continue collaborating with communities in the region and continue to coordinate with the National Operation Support Units to catch individuals who violate the law, such as those who keep firearms without proper license, illegal drugs, and explosives.


“Ang aming mga hakbang tungo sa ikakabuti ng ating rehiyon ay hindi lamang ngayong nagsimula na ang Gun Ban kundi bawat segundo o minuto para masiguro ng PNP ang seguridad, kaayusan at kaligtasan ng mga mamamayan sa Lambak ng Cagayan,” the regional director conveyed.
