Famed largest community artwork in PH undergoes transformation

Updated: Jun 13, 2023

Benguet, Philippines – The famed STOBOSA Hillside Homes Artwork recognized in 2016 as the first and largest community artwork in the Philippines undergoes transformation with its ongoing repainting project.

STOBOSA is an acronym for three sitios of Balili, La Trinidad on which the artwork stands - STOnehill, BOtiwtiw, and SAdjap.

Inspired by the Favelas in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Gamcheon Cultural Village of Korea, the giant mural was finished in 2016 after almost three months using a total of 1,000 gallons of primer paints and 500 gallons of colored paints.

Every holiday season, thousands of tourists have been attracted by the connective landscape.

The outcome of the ongoing repainting of the 300 houses is expected to invite more tourists.

Original designs of the community artwork will be preserved but a design of “waves of colors,” featuring local artists’ skills and talents will be incorporated.

Many can’t wait to see how the new STOBOSA design will turn out.
