Families of 2 NPAs killed in Balbalan clash given aid thru Mayor Malannag’s request


Balbalan, Kalinga – Through the request of Balbalan Mayor Almar Malannag, families of the two New People's Army (NPA) members killed in simultaneous armed encounters in Gawaan village of said town were given aid.


To recall, Osias Maggay Balao-as alias “Pal-og, Payan, Paut”, 62, resident of Bonnong, Wagud, Pinukpuk; and Roy Aggulin Battawang alias “Gonzalo”, 54, from Ananaag, Ammacian, Pinukpuk, were shot to death during the clash against the government troops on March 9 and 15, respectively, the Balbalan police reported through the local information office.

After the encounter, the two were ferried to Balbalan Town Hall where the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management personnel conducted trauma and forensic cleaning, along with those from Rural Health Unit.


Pal-og was then transported to Bolbol, Rizal for burial, while Gonzalo was brought to Ammacian.


To help their families, Congressman Allen Jesse Mangaoang and Governor James Edduba granted Malannag’s request to provide burial assistance.


Related to this, another NPA member - alias Trio, 51, native of Mabaca, Balbalan is now in police custody after he was captured by the military on a clearing operation in Gawaan on March 14.


The army and the local government unit, meanwhile, reiterated their call for the remaining rebels to surrender and avail of the government services such as livelihood aid, instead of living in the mountains.
