Baguio City, Philippines – A devastating fire in Baguio City has left a family homeless, causing an estimated P2 million in damages.

The blaze erupted in Purok 18, Irisan on Tuesday, January 02, marking the city's first recorded fire incident this year.

Engulfed was the three-storey house belonging to 62-year-old taxi driver William Canua and his family.

Also residing in the building were three students and a BJMP personnel.

Fortunately, no one was inside when the fire broke out around 5 p.m. of said day. The Bureau of Fire Protection successfully extinguished the fire at 6:11 p.m.

While investigations continue to ascertain the cause of the fire, the barangay local government unit swiftly provided food packs to support the Canua family, who are temporarily staying with relatives.

In response to the distressing situation, Windel Daumen initiated a donation drive to assist the victims. Daumen emphasized the urgent need for clean clothes, food, hygiene supplies, and blankets.

"For in-kind donations, please message niyo ako para ma centralize tayo," he urged in a social media post.
