Benguet farmers affected by "Paeng" to receive P8.28M UV resistant plastic sheets

Benguet, Philippines - Department of Agriculture - Cordillera, under the leadership of Regional Executive Director Cameron Odsey, donated P8.28 million worth of 720 UV-treated plastic sheets to the Benguet provincial government on Monday, July 17.

The donation under the agency aimed at helping farmers recover from the devastating effects of Typhoon Paeng.

UV plastic sheets are used in agriculture for various purposes, such as mulching and covering crops. These sheets help protect the crops from excessive UV radiation, pests, and harsh weather conditions.

It also aids in retaining moisture and creating a controlled environment that promotes plant growth and productivity. UV plastic sheets are an essential tool in modern agriculture practices to enhance crop yield and quality.

According to Acting Provincial Agriculturist Delinia Juan, a total of 8,810 farmers in Benguet were affected by Typhoon Paeng, which lambasted the country in September last year.

In light of the significant impact, the DA’s support program is helping affected farmers get back on their feet.

She then clarified the program gives priority to those farmers who report damages to their crops at the barangay and municipality’s agriculture offices.
