Farmers in Kabugao, Apayao complete training on upland rice farming

Kabugao, Apayao – To improve upland rice farming practices while protecting the environment, 25 local farmers in Kabugao, Apayao were trained on Upland Rice Farming through the Farmers’ Field School on Contoured Upland Rice Farming – Based Farming System (CURBFS) program.


The 25 individuals completed their six months training on said farming method Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2023.

On said day, these 25 farmers received their certificate of completion from the Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs).


Apart from the certificates, they also received a total of 670 fruit-bearing trees, such as sweet siamese pomelo, lanzones, and rambutan, with 15 trees each.


According to Apayao Public Information Office, CURBFS program aims to boost upland rice production in the province.


It also aims to empower and enhance the skills and knowledge of upland rice farmers, ultimately improving their living standards, self-sufficiency, and food security, as well as protecting soil and biodiversity.


Following the completion of said course, trainees are expected to have acquired additional knowledge and skills in maintaining upland rice farming and improving environmental practices in Apayao.


AEWs will continue to support them by monitoring the application of their newfound knowledge, helping them realize the impact on their production and income, and further enhancing their agricultural practices.
