Magsaysay, Tabuk City – A total of 1,246 bags of free inbred rice seeds were distributed on Dec. 06 and 07, 2022 to the farmers in Magsaysay, Tabuk City for the 2023 dry season.

Punong Barangay Enrique Sagayo informed the seed distribution is part of the Rice Competitive Enhancement Fund (RCEF) Seed Program of the government through the Department of Agriculture – PhilRice.

The seed program is a component of Republic Act 11203 or "Rice Tariffication Law," which allots P10 billion in funds a year for the rice farmers from the rice tariff earnings of the country. The program is a six-year government initiative, implemented with the assistance of local government units, to help rice farmers prosper and become globally competitive.

In Magsaysay village, all farmers tilling rice lands of two hectares and below, and are registered under the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture received a maximum of four bags of inbred seeds, depending on farm size for the said planting season.

Each bag, according to Sagayo, contains 20 kilograms of certified rice seeds.

In his message, the village chief thanked the agriculture department for its programs that support the farmers.

“Iyebkas ko iti dakkel unay nga panagyaman ko iti Department of Agriculture kadagiti nasasayaat nga programa da nga maipaay nga pagsayaatan dagiti farmers, nangruna iti panagited iti bin-i kadagiti farmers. Dakkel nga tulong dayta banag para kadagiti mannalon,” stated Sagayo.

Meanwhile, he encouraged other farmers who are not yet RSBSA-registered to enroll now so they can avail of free seeds in the next distribution.

To register in RSBSA, a farmer needs one valid ID, proof of land ownership, and an ID picture taken within the last six months. The qualified farmers only have to fill up the RSBSA form from the local agriculture office, have it signed by the barangay chairperson, and submit the accomplished form to the agriculture office.
