Farmers in Natonin, Mt. Province get P1.4M livelihood aid for heirloom rice and poultry production

Natonin, Mt. Province – Over P1.4 million worth of livelihood kits were turned over on Wednesday, October 12, to Pora Pap-arong Angharafuy Farmers Association Incorporation of Tonglayan, Natonin, Mountain Province to increase heirloom rice and poultry production in the municipality.


Said program, according to the Department of Agriculture, is under the Sustainable and Inclusive Peace and Agreement (SIPAT) project, ensuring the reduction of poverty and vulnerability in conflict-affected areas.


The livelihood kits given were free-range chickens, feeds, micro tiller, grass cutter, high-density polyethylene pipes, knapsack sprayer, high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe, and training. These shall be utilized to upgrade the productivity of heirloom rice and poultry production of farmer beneficiaries, enough to supply the community.

The turnover ceremony, as reported by the DA, was led by the Office of the Presidential Adviser for Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity (OPAPRU) and the Department of Agriculture- Regional Field Office (DA-RFO – CAR), Provincial Local Government Unit (PLGU) of Mountain Province and the Municipal Local Government (MLGU) of Natonin.


During the awarding, DA-CAR Regional Executive Director Cameron Odsey reminded recipients to focus on boosting their heirloom and poultry production to increase their source of additional income.


“Papintasen tayo daytoy nga project. Sapay kuma ta daytoy ti mangtulong kadakayo ta ad-adu ti mailako yo ken sapay kuma ta babaen iti daytoy nga project ket maitultuloy daytuy ti heirloom rice production ditoy ili yo,” said Odsey.


Meantime, the Barangay Captain of Tonglayan, Alloy Banasan, expressed his gratitude to the OPAPRU, DA-RFO-CAR, and other agencies for providing the farmers with their needs to produce more products that will change their life.
