Fire hits private school in Abulug, Cagayan, leaves P10M worth of damage

Abulug, Cagayan - The main building of a private school in Abulug, Cagayan, is now unsafe for use after being damaged by a fire that broke out at 11 p.m. on Sunday, March 10.

The fire was first noticed by a passerby in the area, who immediately reported it to barangay officials.

Fire officers in the municipality were later notified, and they promptly responded to the scene. They were assisted by volunteers and fire officers from nearby municipalities in containing the situation.

However, the flames spread quickly, and the alarm level rose to the second level. As a result, at least 10 rooms of the Divine Word High School were reportedly damaged, including the school's library, administrative building, computer laboratory, and science laboratory, among other facilities.

It is said that the fire started in the main building of the school and later spread to nearby buildings.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation as of this writing. The cost of damages is estimated to be around P10 million.

Following the incident, the Tuguegarao Archdiocesan School System (TASS) is now seeking financial assistance for the rebuilding of the school.

"The burning of DWHS in Dana-ili, Abulug, Cagayan, is a tragic incident that has deeply affected us, particularly in TASS. However, we remain committed to overcoming this challenge and rebuilding this institution better than before. With the support and solidarity of all stakeholders, we can achieve this goal," TASS said in a statement.

For financial assistance, the public may contact the organization via email at tassofficial2017@gmail.com.

Donations can also be sent through the Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) to the school's account, DIVINE WORD HIGH SCHOOL DANA-ILI, with account number 3702-1045-63.
