First case of Delta variant in Cordillera recorded in Apayao

Updated: May 5, 2023

Pudtol, Apayao – The Philippine Genome Center (PGC) detected the region’s first case of the more transmissible COVID-19 Delta variant in Pudtol town, the Provincial Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (PIATF-EID) of Apayao reports this Friday, August 6, 2021.

According to the task force, the discovery of the presence of the variant in the province was made through one specimen sent for testing last month to the PGC.

The confirmed case, however, has already recovered last month and the provincial task force together with Pudtol IATF is now conducting massive contact tracing.

Contacts will, later on, undergo Reverse transcription- Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) test.

The PIATF issued a statement assuring the general public that the situation is under control stating that “the PIATF and the Pudtol IATF assure everyone that we are doing our best to manage the situation, and are conducting massive tracing of individuals who have had interactions and contact with the confirmed Delta variant case and subject the same to RT-PCR testing.”

To facilitate the contact tracing activities and while waiting for the results of the mass testing, the municipality of Pudtol will be temporarily placed on lockdown starting today, August 6.

Meantime, the public is now urged to be more vigilant and continue to observe the prescribed health and safety protocols, particularly staying at home and only go out for essential and emergency situations, social distancing, wearing of mask and practice of proper hygiene at all times.

As of this writing, Apayao has a record of 391 active cases of the Covid-19 virus.
