First case of CoViD-19 related death in Tabuk City recorded

Updated: Nov 12, 2020

Tabuk City, Kalinga – The City of Tabuk recorded a first CoViD-19 related death around 5am today, November 09, 2020 with the passing away of a 53-year-old man who was an employee of the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Kalinga and had been a close contact of a co-employee who was also found to be positive of the disease.

It is said that the patient was suffering from diabetes and hypertension, and that he died due to complications triggered by the disease.

Although the deceased was a non-resident of Tabuk City which could point to having his record of death at his official residence, he has been residing here for work.

"Nakalista isuna ditoy Tabuk, Kalinga ta isu ti ummuna nga nagreport," said Provincial Health Officer Dr. Ignacio Cawas.

According to him, the patient was found to be positive of the disease based on his swab test result on October 31, 2020. Since he was an immune-compromised patient and showed CoViD-19 signs and symptoms (cough and sore throat), he was referred to the Kalinga Provincial Hospital but later transferred to the Cagayan Valley Medical Center in Tuguegarao City on November 05, 2020 (Thursday) with his pneumonia worsening.

Contact tracing is underway as one of the patient’s family members has also been infected with Coronavirus. All found close contacts are in quarantine.

Disinfection for the NIA-Kalinga compound has been conducted and shall undergo another disinfection activity before the weekend.

Meanwhile, Cawas advised the public not to panic and informed that they have already arranged with the concerned LGU. The patient’s body was immediately brought home to Ifugao today reminding that the body must be buried within 24 hours as per DOH protocol.

CoViD-19 is often more severe to people aged 60 years old and above or those with health conditions like lung or heart disease, diabetes or conditions that affect their immune system, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

Department of Health (DOH) also reported that incidences of co-morbidities are one of the leading causes of death among CoViD-19 patients. The health department strongly reminded individuals who have pre-existing medical conditions to take care of themselves and strictly observe minimum health standards.
