First female General in CAR from Kalinga retires

Pinukpuk, Kalinga - Days after rendering an exit call to the Commanding General of Philippine Army, the first female General in Cordillera officially retired Friday, Nov. 25, 2022.


Chief Nurse Brigadier General Venus Bajarin, who was assigned to the Armed Forces of the Philippines Nurse Corps in 1991, hails from Pinukpuk and Pasil, Kalinga.


Prior to her designation to the Office of The Chief Nurse of AFP, Bajarin was first the Chief Nurse of Victoriano Luna Medical Center (VLMC) of AFP Health Service Command (HSC).

Further, she served as Deputy Chief Nurse; Chief Nurse at Camp Evangelista Station Hospital, 4th Infantry Division; and Clinical Supervisor of VLMC, AFP HSC.


Bajarin was earlier recognized by Philippine Army’s Commanding General, Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner Jr. for her ‘extensive strategies on upholding the best practices when handling patients and creating a conducive environment for the military and civilian personnel, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.’


After Bajarin’s exit, the then Deputy Chief Nurse Colonel Marilyn Tolentino took over as the acting Chief Nurse.
