Luna, Apayao – Luna’s first ‘Rambak ni Mannalon’ will officially open on Friday, July 28 after the celebration was postponed due to Tropical Cyclone ‘Egay’.

Egay intensified into a Super Typhoon today, July 25, causing heavy rainfall and strong wind in the Northern Luzon including the town of Luna which was placed to Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal number 3, as of 2:00 p.m.

“EGAY is nearing its peak intensity. A short window of high favorable environment in the near term will allow it to either maintain its intensity in the next 12 hour or slightly intensify,” Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration(PAGASA) forecasted.

The Super Typhoon is estimated to make landfall or ‘pass very close’ to Babuyan Islands late evening today or tomorrow morning, July 26 and is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility by July 27.

Acting on this, Mayor Josephine Bangsil issued Memorandum Order No. 70 Series of 2023 this Tuesday to reschedule the supposed town festival opening tomorrow, July 26 to July 28.

She cited that the postponement of the fest is ‘to prevent possible dangers’ which the Super Typhoon might cause should they pursue the event on its original date.

Activities

Prior to the kick-off, there will be a ‘Rabii ti Mannalon’ on July 27 where the creative folkdance competition and the ‘Libnos ti Luna 2023’ pre-pageant and talent competition will be held.

On the formal opening of the festival the next day, activities lined up are: festival float parade; opening of agro-tourism trade fair ‘Partuat ni Mannalon’; ecumenical service; formal program; dance sport ‘ti annak ni mannalon’; abel ti Luna fashion show; and the Search for the ‘Bituen ti Luna’ 2023.

The celebration will culminate on July 29 with street dance parade and showdown; ‘rambak ni mannalon’ solidarity dance; awarding of incentives of winners in the Search for the Best Gulayan sa Barangay; hip-hop dance competition; and the Search for the ‘Libnos ti Luna’ 2023.
