Flora celebrates Elderly Week with choral competition as highlights

Flora, Apayao- Flora LGU on Wednesday held activities for the Annual celebration of Elderly Week, showcasing a choral competition as means to recognize the senior citizens' legacy in community development and transformation.

Data from Flora LGU showed there are about 2,160 senior citizens across the municipality.

The celebration was held at the Dr. Efren U. De San Jose Memorial Sports Center, featuring this year's theme “Senior Citizens: Building the Nation, Inspiring Generations."

Three clusters of senior citizens battled for the choral championship, where Cluster 1 comprised of barangays Poblacion East, Poblacion West, Bagutong and Atok emerged as the winner for their spectacular performance singing Ilocano Traditional folk songs. They received P13,000 cash prize.

Cluster 2 consisting of barangays Tamalunog, Malubibit Sur, Malubibit Norte, Anninipan, and Allig was awarded Second with a cash prize of P11,000. On the other hand, Cluster 3 represented by barangays Balluyan, Sta. Maria, Malayugan, and Mallig got the third place, with P9,000. 00.

In 2023 Elderly Week, cluster 1 also won first place.

MSWDO Iris Venus C. Sana conveyed other parts of the celebration included fashion show and Community Social Dances, and crowning of the Municipal Senior Citizens Federation Queen.

Mayor Juan, during said event, appreciated and expressed support to senior citizens, saying "Sapay kuma ta ad adu pay nga tawen ti panang selebrar tayo iti daytoy (Elderly Week) naisang sangayan a programa ket madanon tu manen ti umay a tawen nga nasalun-at, napigsa ken napnuan tayu iti ragsak...daytoy ti kanayun ko nga idaw dawat iti Namarsua.”

Juan also urged them to remain actively involved in government endeavors, underlining their indispensable value in the society where, in return they deserve respect and value.

Vice Mayor Jeofrey Blas, Sangguniang Bayan members, OSCA Head Charlito Bistayan, and SC Federation President Aniceta Cacacho likewise participated in said Elderly momentous event.
