Ifugao, Philippines – An Ifugao beauty will be attempting to take home the much-sought crown in the Philippines this coming May, debuting the province’s participation in the Miss Universe Philippines.

Ifugao was never represented in the history of Miss Universe PH pageant, but this is going to change this 2025 as Valerie Pawid West, whose roots trace back to Kiangan, is set to take her heritage with her in the biggest pageantry stage in the country.

Valerie, a 22-year-old biomedical engineer, is not new to beauty pageants. Among her latest title is Miss Reina Filipina North America 2025whosecoronation was held on January 25 at Palladium Times Square in New York City.

Valerie was warmly welcomed back by the people of Ifugao on February 23. She first reconnected with her hometown, Kiangan, before visiting other municipalities in the province and meeting officials and her fellow Ifugaos.

The beauty hopes that her joining the Miss Universe Philippines representing Ifugao and the Filipino-American community of New York inspires the people to embrace their cultural heritage and stand for who they are.

“I am here to share my journey with you all as your first ever Miss Universe Philippines Ifugao, paving the way for indigenous people. In my element and representing the Fil-Am society of New York as Reina Filipina North America, may this send a signal fire across the universe to embrace their cultural heritage and stand for who they are with unwavering strength,” Valerie wrote on her Facebook page.

The provincial and municipal local governments in Ifugao had expressed their support to Valerie as they met her during herreturn and visit to her home province this last week of February.
