Former Kalinga Cong. Wacnang urges public to prepare themselves for CAR’s autonomy

Tabuk City, Kalinga — Former Kalinga Congressman Lawrence Wacnang has called on the citizens in the province and the region to begin conditioning themselves as responsible constituents of the coming of the autonomous region of the Cordillera.

Wacnang delivered his statement during the Cordillera Autonomy Regional Summit Culmination activity on November 4, 2022, at the Kalinga Astrodome.

The former congressman noted that while the call and quest for Autonomous Region of Cordillera is ongoing, the people should, alongside it, prepare for changes that will happen.

“We should be telling our kids now that we should start preparing ourselves, to prepare to become responsible citizens of an autonomous region and an autonomous governance ta awan tun sabali nga as-asaan tayo nu di ket iti bagbagi tayo,” he said.

He likewise urged the local leaders to do the same and be ready to lead in the autonomous region set-up as they will be the ones to manage when the time comes, and they will no longer be depending on the national government.

Wacnang stressed the conversion of the Cordillera into an autonomous region is guaranteed by the 1987 Philippine Constitution and that the Cordillerans should take this chance to finally achieve the autonomy dreamt of by our forefathers.

The former congressman challenged the public to help explain and enlighten other people about the meaning and benefits of an autonomous region, while the political leaders bring the quest for autonomy to the congress.
