Former NPA from Kalinga acquitted of murder charges

Tabuk City, Kalinga – A 64-year-old former rebel in Pinukpuk was found not guilty of double murder on January 9, 2023, the 5th Infantry Division reported.

Alyas ‘Stan’ was part of the Komiteng Larangang Guerilla(KLG)-Baggas and was charged with double murder in 2016. Through the help of his relatives, Stan surrendered to the authorities on March 13, 2022, in Pinukpuk and faced the charges against him.

Ten months since he returned to the government, the Regional Trial Court of the Second Judicial Region Branch 25 released its decision on the double murder Stan was accused of.

Stan was acquitted due to ‘lack of evidence on the prosecutor’s side’ after the witness failed to appear in court to testify.

The former rebel thanked the Integrated Bar of the Philippines who represented him while his case was being heard in court. He likewise conveyed his gratitude to the assistance given by the Kalinga Provincial Task Force-End Local Communist Armed Conflict(PTF-ELCAC).

The Kalinga PTF-ELCAC, on the other hand, still calls on the remaining members of the weakened KLG-Baggas to surrender and have a peaceful life. They also assured assistance to the surrenderers in the legal process of their criminal cases.
