Balbalan, Kalinga – A former rebel from Balbalan surrendered a hidden firearm to the government troops, reported the 103rd Infantry Battalion on Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2023.

The firearm and ammunition were surrendered by alias “Ben”, 43, a resident of Poswoy village in said town, and an alleged former member of Milisyang Bayan under Kilusang Larangang Gerilya (KLG) Baggas, Ilocos Cordillera Regional Committee (ICRC).

“Ben” revealed he was entrusted with the firearm and other war materials by the rebels operating in the area. Due to his fear, he buried the weapons.

After deciding to abandon the wrong ideology, he returned to the folds of the law and revealed to authorities the site where he buried the weapons.

The army recovered one M1 Carbine Assault Rifle, one magazine for an MI Carbine (20 rounder), and 9 rounds of live ammunition for the same rifle.

“The continuous revelations of kabagyan and kailyan in Kalinga only show support to the troops in ending armed conflict, we also encourage the other kabagyan and kailayan to carry out similar things to end the inhumane and abusive acts of CPP-NPA-NDF in the province of Kalinga,” stated Battalion Commander, LTC Joel Lucas.
