Former rebel's tip-off leads army, police to NPA arms cache in Ifugao


Asipulo, Ifugao – A cache of war materials was unearthed at Sitio Maloy, Cawayan, Asipulo Wednesday, August 16, following a tip from a former rebel.


Asipulo police were called by the ex-rebel and disclosed to them where the war materials were hidden by the communist terrorist group.

As relayed by the rebel who returned to the fold of the law, the materials were buried in the said area sometime in 2017.


With the timely and reliable information received, authorities notified their fellow uniformed personnel in other police units and the 54th Infantry Batallion and proceeded to the area.


There, they recovered two 40mm Grenade Rifle, one 60mm cartridge, three 40mm cartridges, one improvised mine APERS, 15 feet stranded wire, one caliber 45 pistol with markings ‘Colt’s Government Model’, one cellphone switch, a long and short magazine for M16 rifle and a magazine for m14 rifle.


Recovered items were brought to Asipulo MPS for documentation and were turned over to Provincial EOD and Canine Unit- Ifugao for proper disposition.


To recall, another discovery of war materials and a Communist Terrorist Group encampment was made a day prior to the confiscation of said arm cache at Mt. Ampucao, Balugan, Sagada, Mt. Province.

In said operation, government troops caught sight of war materials allegedly owned by another CTG group.


These include the flags of the CPP-NPA, Bagong Hukbong Bayan, Cordillera Peoples Democratic Front (CPDF), and CPP NDF.


Other materials recovered were a short M16 Magazine, a 30L white gallon with 1 liter of gasoline, communication devices, educational paraphernalia, and some personal belongings.
