FPA-Cagayan warns public against fake fertilizers

Joshua Agurin

Cagayan, Philippines – The Fertilizer and Pesticides Authority of Cagayan Valley warned on July 10 the farmers and the general public against fake fertilizer products circulating in the market.

The FPA Cagayan Valley said reports reached their office that fake Philippine Phosphate (PhilPhos) Fertilizer with grade 14-14-14 and 16-20-0 were being peddled and distributed recently.

According to the agency, the alleged fake fertilizer can easily be identified through the label. The printing of the label of fake fertilizers is lighter than the original ones.

Also, the physical property of the fake ones does not match to the original texture and color of PhilPhos fertilizers.

The fake appears to be blended fertilizer.

In response, FPA has already taken samples of the counterfeit fertilizers for confirmatory analysis of their chemical composition.

The distribution and use of such products, FPA Cagayan Valley said, is punishable by law.

The products can likewise result to damage to crops and badly affect farmers’ produce.

The agency encouraged the public to be more vigilant and report such incidents to the nearest FPA Regional Field Unit for investigation.
