Tubo, Abra – A gardener died in a landslide that buried his hut in Barangay Wayangan, Tubo, Abra at 7:53 pm on Tuesday night, August 02, 2022.

Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Officer Regina Tayawa through Abra TV reported that the heavy rain and the earthquake aftershock felt in the area that evening caused the hillside over the hut to collapse, burying the victim inside.

The victim’s companion, Samuel Agosto, immediately sought the help of the locals.

Unfortunately, the 59-year-old Dario Sario was already dead when he was recovered.

Sario, a widower, is said to be a resident of Wayangan, Tubo.

As recalled by Agosto, they had just finished their dinner when he heard a crashing sound from the outside.

He invited Sario to move out of the hut but the victim has poor vision and was trapped inside.

Sario is the 11th casualty recorded since the 7.0-magnitude tremor rocked Northern Luzon on July 27.

Authorities advised Cordillerans to remain vigilant following the advisory of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology that the aftershocks could last for months.

As of today, August 04, a total of 2,492 aftershocks have been recorded by the state seismologists.
