Gas station fire in Tuguegarao City possibly due to fuel pump failure

Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – The fire that broke out at a gasoline station in Barangay Caritan Centro, Tuguegarao City on Monday, July 1 was possibly due to a fuel pump failure, according to authorities.

Said fire alarmed people in the area as blazes engulfed part of the gas station.

In videos taken by netizens and bystanders, it could be seen how the employees tried to put out the fire using fire extinguishers and just how big the blazes were.

The Bureau of Fire and Protection personnel arrived just in time and put out the fire using their fire truck.

The BFP- Tuguegerao, as cited by the Cagayan Information Office, reported that the gas station’s fuel pump might have malfunctioned which might have led to a leak.

When a fuel pump malfunctions, it could lead to a leak of flammable liquid, which can be ignited and spark a fire under right conditions.

The BFP – Tuguegarao relayed that the fire resulted in an estimated P500,000 cost of damage. Fortunately, there were no casualties, and no buildings or facilities near the gas station were damaged.

The fire bureau is now conducting further investigation to determine the real cause of the incident.
