Girl drowns in Baggao, Cagayan river

Baggao, Cagayan – A 7-year-old girl was found lifeless at a river bank in San Francisco, Baggao 9 AM of Tuesday, July 11.

On Monday, July 10, Daphnie, the victim who was a grade 2 pupil was left at home with her 10-year-old brother, Ivan, as their father delivered food to their mom who was then at the hospital.

Moments later, the two went to the river, as per account of their neighbor.

Accordingly, the siblings used to collect stones on said river, which they frequently used as toys.

While at the river, the victim suddenly removed her clothes to go for a swim. Minutes later, her brother noticed she was already in the deep part of the water and was drowning.

The brother tried to save the victim but he was not able to do so as Daphnie held on him tightly, pushing him underneath the waters, causing him to lose his grip on her until he could no longer see her.

Ivan, who might have been overwhelmed by the scenario, decided not to tell their parents about what happened when he returned home.

At 6 PM, it was then that their father noticed that Daphnie was missing.

He found his daughter’s slippers and clothes at their house which prompted him to search for the victim in his neighborhood but did not locate her.

It was only at 9 AM on July 11 that Daphnie’s lifeless body was discovered by their neighbor in a shallow part of the river.

The remains of the victim were ferried to St. Claire Funeral Homes for a post-mortem examination and for proper burial procedures.
