Giving up is not an option: BSU graduate among top 5 in Sept. 2024 LET

Giving up is much easier when faced with challenges, but Jessica Otinguey Legaspi, a graduate of Benguet State University, that is not an option.

Jessica, working out what she’s got to rise above constraints, was recently named among the top 5 in the September 2024 Licensure Examination for Teachers – Elementary level.

In an interview with GURU Press Cordillera, the 22-year-old Cum Laude from Asin Road, Baguio City revealed she did not expect to top the board exam, she just intended to pass.

“Gusto ko lang po eh makapasa,” she said.

Jessica narrated she wanted to enroll at a review center but financial constraints kept her. Instead of being disheartened by her situation, she made things work by gathering the right materials and watching free review videos online.

She added that among the struggles of someone, self-reviewing is not having any idea where to start and what materials to use. She also mentioned that time management was a challenge as she had to juggle going over her notes and helping with chores at home.

“Noong una, gusto ko din po sanang mag-review center pero wala po talagang budget. Nag-rely po ako sa mga free videos, google form at ibat ibang materials na pwedeng makalap,” she said.

When asked who kept her going amidst these limitations and struggles she faced while preparing for the board exam she said, “family dahil wala ng ibang tutulong samin kundi kami lang. Hindi pwedeng tumigil kasi lalo kaming mahihirapan.”

As for those who will be taking the LET next, Jessica advises them to help one another and not to see anyone taking the same exam as competitors.

“Better na huwag makipagkompetensya sa iba kasi same goal lang naman yung tinatarget natin. Kung pwede naman, magshare ng kung anong kayang ishare kasi hindi natin alam na baka may iba na nangangapa at hindi alam kung anong gagawin or saan magsastart. Mas maganda sa pakiramdam kapag pareparehas kayong makakaachieve kaysa may isang maiiwan,” she expressed.
