Gov. Bulut Jr. heightens support to Apayao farmers, entrepreneurs

Updated: Feb 11, 2023

Luna, Apayao – Speaking to a group of farmers and entrepreneurs during the grand kick-off of this year’s Say-am Festival Agri-Industrial and Tourism Fair on February 10, Governor Elias Bulut Jr. relayed the provincial government’s plans of stepping up their efforts towards a more progressive Apayao by empowering and assisting cooperatives and associations.

The governor said they will pursue plans in boosting the marketability of products not only in the province but more so, outside of the province.

This March, the first farmers association’s forum will then be held to determine their needs that would help the government craft a more comprehensive plan.

“Nakitak ti kinaadun ti products tayo ket agtugaw tayo, anusan yun tu ta agayab kami manen tapnu saludsuden mi nu anya ti aramiden iti probinsya, anya iti maitulong iti probinsiya, anya ti maitulong dagiti national line agencies nga adda dituy Apayao tapnu iti kasta ket ammuen tayu nu kas-anu tayo pay nga ag-improve,” the governor stated.

In the enhancement of products, Bulut mentioned the national-line agencies who could be of help are the Department of Science and Technology, the Department of Trade and Industry, and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, among others.

In the formation of cooperatives and provision of technical assistance, the provincial government has also formed a group in charge of the task.

The governor emphasized his leadership is aggressive in assisting cooperatives as the national government’s direction is directing projects and funds to associations.

What to look forward to?

An initial plan told by the governor is to apply for a loan from the Landbank of the Philippines, thus the need for the said forum.

If able to acquire said loan, the fund will be used for farmers to avail of low-interest loans they need in starting or enhancing their products.

He likewise told the public about the possibility of erecting a business incubation center or a training center for farmers’ associations.

“Han tayo siguro maaramid dagituy [plano] iti maysa nga tawen , agplanu tayo manen iti lima nga tawen, sangapulo nga tawen tapnu iti kasta ket adda iti addang na. Agpangpangato dapat ti direksiyon,” Bulut concluded.
