Bulut Jr. lauds 22 new yApayao Marines, a result of the province's recruitment program

Updated: Sep 7, 2023

Apayao, Philippines - Apayao Governor Elias C. Bulut, Jr. underscored the importance of Apayao Socio-economic Efforts Necessary for Growth (ASENG) program during the courtesy visit of the 22 newly minted marines on Tuesday, September 5.

ASENG is the province’s program which aims to recruit the youth to join the Philippine security forces such as the Philippine Army, PNP, BFP and Marines.

The local government provides them cash aid to support the processing of their papers, taking their exams, and if they pass, sending them to their training.

In his talk with the Marines, the governor emphasized that the program did not just help strengthen the country’s national defense but also boost the province’s economic growth by giving employment opportunities to yApayaos, specifically the out-of-school youth.

"Our AFP recruitment program is one of our shortcuts to development. It serves a dual purpose - not only does it help strengthen our national defense, but it also offers our youth a pathway to personal and communal progress," he said.

As recalled, 700 youth in the province have already benefited from said program. They are now serving in different military branches of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

As for the 22 fresh graduate soldiers, they are among the 156 cadets from various parts of the country who graduated from the Philippine Marine Corps (PMC) on September 1, 2023. This is after six months of comprehensive military training.

Among said graduates, 2 of them topped their respective classes. They are Fermin Borja and Diway Benbinan, both from Conner, Apayao, who placed 3rd and 8th, respectively.

The graduates will be deployed to various battalions of the PMC.
