Tabuk City, Kalinga – Governor James Edduba is strongly pushing for the adaptation of renewable energy in Kalinga through the use of the province’s water resources to reduce electricity cost and in turn bolster the local economy.
“If we would generate our electricity nga bumaba kuma ti gatad ti kuryente tayo ditoy kuma Kalinga, ket it would help in our economy” he shared in an interview with Station 1 Radio.
His statement came after he shared that he attended a summit in Baguio City on renewable energy last month disclosing that the RDC Chair, Apayao Governor Elias Bulut Jr., is on the same page.
“Ni RDC Chair Bulut ket kasdiay met lang, he is really encouraging support. He made a policy nga let’s support (renewable energy). So talaga nga daytoy kuma ti i-develop tayo ditoy Kalinga ta nakabak-baknang tayo ngay iti danum like in Apayao. Ket sayang lang ta ti nearby provinces ti kaadwan nga makaus-usar,” he related.
In an interview, Governor Edduba emphasized the potential impact of generating electricity locally on lowering costs, citing the abundance of tributary rivers in Kalinga as an opportunity to harness renewable energy.
“We have many tributary rivers that we have here in Kalinga. Why don’t we make use of our waters kuma. I-harness tayu kuma ta agbalin nga renewable energy daytoy ta ti danum ket bumaba met, awan met ti ngumato nga danum. Usaren tayu kuma for power kuma daytoy danum tayu and then isu met ti usaren ti dadduma nga probinsiya.”
The governor also highlighted the need to capitalize on these water resources to create a sustainable energy source for the province, foreseeing increased investor interest in the province. He emphasized that such investments would generate job opportunities for local residents, diminishing the need to seek employment outside and allowing them to contribute their expertise to their province.
Governor Edduba pointed out the wider-community benefits of embracing renewable energy, stressing the interconnection of the Provincial Government initiatives aside from infrastructure.
“You know why I am really pushing this? Because of the future of the yKalingas. Everything that the provincial government is doing is interconnected. That is why the provincial government is doing its part, ar-aramiden tayo dagitoy ket this will also improve the economic environment kuma. Ket ditoy nga makatulong kami, kitaen mi diay ease of doing business. When investors come, dagiti uubbing tayo ket haan dan nga rumwar, ditoy dan Kalinga nga agtrabaho. They will serve their province,” he shared.
He said that this will eventually lead to peace and order and economic stability.
He then urged other Local Government Units (LGUs) to support this initiative, recognizing its potential to shape a brighter future for Kalinga Province.
