Gov. Edduba thankful Kalinga was spared from worse incidents during Typhoon Kristine

Tabuk City, Kalinga – While Typhoon Kristine brought torrential rains and strong winds in Kalinga, the province was spared from worse incidents authorities expected to happen, says Kalinga Governor James Edduba.

On October 23 – 24, Kalinga was put under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 3 as the Severe Tropical Storm landfall in the neighboring province, Isabela, leading officials to expect a wider and worse destruction.

Though 1,429 individuals or 397 families were ‘affected’ by the typhoon and some areas were submerged in flood and some roads covered in slides, Edduba said the province’s situation was better than what they had anticipated to happen, given the intensity of Kristine.

“We are lucky that we have only one casualty[injured] in the province, and although there are many civilians affected, at least our situation is better than expected… We are very thankful that we are not much affected except for [that] one injury,” the governor said in his interview with Radyo Pilipinas Tabuk.

As of October 25, few roads are still being cleared from debris like the ones in Sitios Gimma, Alli, and Akwar in Tanudan. Also, the power in majority of areas in Kalinga has already been restored by the Kalinga – Apayao Electric Cooperative Inc.
