Grade 1 student drowns after falling into drainage in Benguet

Benguet, Philippines – Open drainage systems are deadly threat to children.

A 6-year-old girl was walking with her sibling along Pipingew, Lubas, La Trinidad on Wednesday afternoon when she accidentally slipped, falling into the open canal.

She was swept and got stuck in the drainage system, a report from La Trinidad Municipal Police Station stated.

The victim, a Grade 1 student and a resident of the same place, was pulled by responding authorities from the drainage and was brought to the hospital but could not be revived.

It may not take another death for those concerned to cover the open drainage systems, canals, or manholes.
