Grade-12 student from Flora, Apayao competes in FIDE World Junior Chess Championships

Apayao, Philippines – A grade 12 student from Flora, Apayao represents the Philippines on FIDE World Junior Chess Championships Girls this October 10 – 24, 2022 in Sardinia, Italy.


The said competition is participated by young chess champions from different countries around the world.


Mhage Gerriahlou Sebastian, a grade 12 STEM student at Far Eastern University- Diliman, is the country’s representative in the competition this year.

As part of their support to Sebastian, the Local Government Unit of Flora Apayao handed financial assistance this October 10.


“Flora is already proud of you and the whole Province of Apayao. Keep going and keep reaching for more, Mhage!” the LGU wrote in a Facebook post.


Sebastian has brought home medals and honor to the country over the past years. Among the competitions she joined include the 20th ASEAN+ Age-Group Chess Championships in Myanmar last 2019, wherein she bagged 3 silver medals and 1 bronze.


In 2015, Sebastian also won a gold medal and two silver medals during the 16th ASEAN+ Age Group Chess Championship in Singapore.
