Grade 8 student from Isabela bags 3 medals at Asian Swimming Championships


Cauayan City, Isabela - Mark Justine Africano, a grade 8 student hailing from the province of Isabela, successfully brought home three medals after participating in the recently concluded Asian Invitational Swimming Championships in Bangkok, Thailand.

 

Held from February 2 to 4, 2024, the competition is a major aquatics event participated in by athletes from various Asian countries.

 

Representing Cauayan City National High School, Africano showcased his swimming skills against 13 other participants, winning gold, silver, and bronze medals in his respective categories.


Remarkably, his outstanding performance nearly surpassed the Philippine Junior Record of 26.15 seconds, achieving a record of 26.32 seconds.

 

Expressing his gratitude, Africano took to his social media account to thank God for his accomplishments.

 

“I am forever grateful to the Lord for blessing me with these medals and the strength that comes with it... I know that without His grace and mercy, I would not have been able to achieve this accomplishment,” he said.

 

He also expressed gratitude to his loved ones for their support throughout his journey, stating, “I am also grateful for the support and encouragement of my loved ones, who have been my pillars of strength throughout this journey.”

 

Meanwhile, his father, Jetz Africano, praised him during his interview with local media, highlighting that his son not only represented Cauayan City but also the entire country.

 

Currently, Africano continues his training as he prepares for the upcoming Cagayan Valley Regional Athletic Association (CAVRAA).
