Gunman of barangay captain in Tuao, Cagayan in police custody

Tuguegarao City, Cagayan- The person of interest in the death of a barangay captain in Tuao, Cagayan is now in police custody and is facing a murder case filed against him following an inquest proceeding on Wednesday, May 25, 2022.

The suspect identified by Cagayan Police Provincial Office as Barangay Kagawad Eduardo Montorio was the back rider of the victim, Dante Blanza, barangay captain of Sto. Tomas, Tuao when the incident happened.

Based on the investigation conducted by authorities, they found that Montorio was the person of interest due to his contradicting statements about the incident.

A paraffin test done on the suspect’s right hand also gave a positive result based on the examination by the Crime Laboratory Office.

Meantime, further investigation is being conducted by Tuao Municipal Police Station to locate the calibre 45 firearm used in the killing of Blanza.

As recalled, the victim along with Montorio visited the Department of Agriculture in Tuao West on Tuesday, May 24, but while traversing the road along Barangay Bicok, two men riding in tandem overtook and shoot them.

Blanza, as reported, received a gunshot wound on his chest, while his rider, Montorio, was unharmed.

Blanza was brought to Saint Paul Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
