Gunmen of couple shot on Victory Liner offered P120,000 contract to kill

Tabuk City, Kalinga – One of the two gunmen involved in the tragic bus shooting last month in Nueva Ecija revealed they were offered P60,000 for the death of each victim.

Alyas ‘Allan’ was identified as one of the two men who shot the live-in partners who were then napping in the front seats of the Victory Liner bus going to Manila on November 15.

Five days after the incident, the suspect who was allegedly a member of a gun-for-hire group operating in Nueva Ecija and Isabela was arrested by authorities and was brought to the custody of the Nueva Ecija police.

In his interview with ABS-CBN, Allan admitted he was involved in the shooting, but stressed it was “Umpak” and the female victim’s son, “Tisoy” who planned the murder.

He added they were hired to kill the live-in partners for P60,000 each victim, and that they received P20,000 as initial payment.

The suspect likewise conveyed remorse for what he did saying, "Sa konsensya ko po, sa habag po ng aking damdamin, tao lang din po akong nagkakamali... Basta importante hindi po natutulog ang Panginoon."

The other assailant, meantime, is still being searched by the police.

Motive for the crime

Among the motives for the crime established by the authorities was the conflict between the female victim and her son, ‘Tisoy’.

According to PCol. Richard Caballero, Nueva Ecija police director, Tisoy and his live-in partner allegedly stole the 60-year-old victim’s car in February 2023.

Two months later, the two allegedly entered the victim’s house in Cauayan, Isabela and took land titles and P2 million cash. This resulted in the slain mother filing robbery and carjacking charges against the two suspects.

A warrant of arrest was issued in September against the two accused, but they were out on bail. It was alleged that this could be the time when the plan to murder the victim and her partner began.

Five individuals, meantime, were said to be involved in the shooting incident. Two gunmen and three individuals who were onboard a car following the bus – one of them was the female victim’s son, according to the confession of Allan.
