Hand grenade explosion kills husband and wife in Isabela

Gamu, Isabela - While quarrels between husbands and wives are considered a normal scenario, the incident in Gamu, Isabela is not one of such scenes as police believed their dispute resulted in a bomb explosion at their residence on Wednesday, February 2, claiming their lives.

Police in the area were notified by a concerned citizen regarding a loud bang at Purok 7, District III, Gamu prompting them to proceed to the area.

While there, they discovered the dead bodies of the couple - Charles Medrano, 40, and Criselda Medrano, 43, in their bedroom.

Their bodies were brought to a funeral home later on.

Gamu police hinted the two died due to a hand grenade blast as they found debris of the explosive at the incident scene.

When asked about the possible cause of the incident, PMaj Ricson Cabauatan told local media that a fight between them might have caused the explosion of the grenade. Based on records, the two had been to barangay conciliation proceedings numerous times at the barangay hall and complaints were lodged at the police station as the husband was said to have been hurting his wife.

In 2021, the husband was even sued by his wife but eventually went out of jail as the latter filed an Affidavit of Desistance.

Meantime, an investigation of the case is still being pursued, with Gamu police coordinating closely with the Provincial Explosives Canine Unit and Scene of the Crime Operation (SOCO) Isabela.
