Head of NBI South Eastern Mindanao Regional Office is from Kalinga

Updated: Aug 22, 2022

Tabuk City, Kalinga – A new Regional Director of National Bureau Investigation - South Eastern Mindanao in Davao City who is set to assume office on Monday, August 22, 2022 is from Kalinga.

The designation order is contained under Special Order No. 2018 dated August 16, as signed by Director, Atty. Medardo G. de Lemos.

Atty. Gelatio Bonggat, the new regional director of said place, was a former Kalinga District 2 Board Member.

To recall, Bongngat served as the Regional Director of Region 2 since August 2018 until he was assigned to the Office of the Assistant Director for Intelligence Service (OADIntS) in June 2022.

New designation, a ‘very challenging’ post

Asked about how he feels about his new designation, Bongngat told Guru Press-Cordillera that assuming the post is ‘very challenging’ especially that the high-ranking officials are in the region including former President Rodrigo Duterte, the incumbent Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio, Senator Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa, among others.

“Very challenging in the sense na maraming nag-aspire na gustong ma-assign diyan pero tayo yung linagay. It’s one of the big region and city in the country so hopefully, by the grace of the Almighty, we can do our job well and of course carry the name of an yKalinga…considering that I am the first RD of NBI nga taga-Kalinga,” he added.

Perform primary duties of law enforcement agency

As to his plans, Bongngat said he will perform the primary duties or mandate of the bureau such as the fight against ‘human trafficking, illegal drug trade, anti-corruption, and criminality.’

“Number 1 na mandato sa atin yung intelligence network natin halimbawa yung counter-terrorism natin sa Mindanao, andiyan pa yung mga organized crime on terrorism, yan din yung isang babantayan natin as law enforcement agency,” he relayed.

With high hopes for him, he committed to show that ‘we can work, we can accomplish more for the region.’

To the personnel of NBI-SEMRO that he will soon be working with, Bongngat hopes that they will ‘do well and perform well.’

Moreover, he is looking forward to adapt with the Mindanao culture that seems foreign yet for him.
