Here’s what to expect in “Tanggaw di iBalbalan” 2023

Balbalan, Kalinga – With the holidays around the corner, the local government of Balbalan is into a whirlwind of festive preparations to liven up the yuletide season with displays you will not want to miss.

From “Pasilaw” in 2022, the town under Malannag administration moves to call this year’s event as “Tanggaw Di iBalbalan.” The word “tanggaw” is a local term for ‘light’ which does not only pertain to the lighting ceremony but also signifies Jesus as the exclusive source of spiritual light which dispels darkness.

The program slated for December 01 at the municipal grounds in Poblacion will bring dazzling spectacles of Christmas lights and festivity at every turn to infuse families and friends with the real essence of the yuletide - spreading joy, love, and togetherness.

Aside from the array of vibrant colors, attendees will get to enjoy lined up activities such as the “Hand-Held Lantern Parade” competition to be participated by Balbalan National High School, Balbalan Agro-Industrial High School, Sain Theresita’s School, and Western Kalinga NHS for secondary level.

Six elementary schools will participate in the elementary category of the same event – Pantikian Elementary School, Balbalan Proper ES, Balantoy ES, Poswoy ES, Buaya ES, and Balbalan Central School.

Lantern-making and Christmas Tree-making contest will likewise be conducted which will be joined by Balbalan barangays, except for Mabaca and Poswoy which did not confirm their participation.

To ensure that the lights and displays are in place for the merriment, Mayor Almar Malannag is monitoring and is working hands on with his constituents as they prepare for the grand event.

“Maawis kayun losan para sin “Tanggaw di iBalbalan”! Come and celebrate the spirit of Christmas with us… Have with you and your family and friends your winter jackets as the cold breeze chills you up with our enchanting lighting ceremony,” invites Malannag.
