High-powered rifles of NPA rebels seized after armed clash in Abra

Abra, Philippines – With more high-powered firearms being seized from the rebels, the force of the Communist Terrorist Groups in the Cordillera region continues to decline.


This was reiterated by the 5th Infantry Division Commander, MGen. Audrey Pasia following an armed encounter between the army and the rebels yesterday, November 20, 2023, in Barangay Pacqued, Malibcong, Abra.

The firefight which lasted for 15 minutes ensued between troops of the 50th Infantry Battalion and suspected members of the Komiteng Larangang Guerilla (KLG) North-Abra.


The clash ended when the communist terrorist group faced by the military at the time withdrew and scampered away, leaving high-powered guns at the place of the incident.


Said firearms include an M14 rifle, 3 M16 rifles, a piece of K3 light machine gun, and 2 bandoliers. All of these were taken to authorities’ custody for proper disposition.


5th Infantry Division confirmed no one was hurt on the side of the government troops, and they are still validating if anyone was injured on the part of the suspected rebels.
