‘Hindi deserve ng father ko na mamatay sa ganun lang…’ - daughter of 65-yr-old killed in Marcos Highway road accident

A daughter’s grief has touched many hearts online after she shared her emotional story about the sudden and tragic death of her father, a 65-year-old former taxi driver, who was killed in an accident along Marcos Highway, Baguio City, on Wednesday, April 9.

In a heartfelt social media post, Vana Ventura Parchamento described the pain of losing a man who had spent 40 years of his life driving safely, only to die because of someone's recklessness.  

The old man, she described as a responsible driver and father, was finally beginning to enjoy the fruits of his hard work after decades of raising his family through his job as a taxi driver. Unfortunately, that peaceful life was abruptly taken away when he was hit by a four-wheel vehicle while walking by the roadside. 

The person responsible for his death is a 22-year-old man who allegedly had a hangover after attending a party.  

“Taxi driver ang father ko. 40 years siyang nagserbisyo sa lungsod ng Baguio…Ngayon pa lang nag-eenjoy ang papa ko sa buhay niya… Ung hindi niya need magmaneho ng taxi para kumita kasi meron na kaming mga anak niya na bahala sa kanya. Pero bakit ganun?“ Vana wrote on her Facebook.

Vana recounted the long years her father had spent driving a taxi, never involved in any accidents, and always careful to ensure the safety of his passengers. She shared how his father had dedicated his life to providing for the family and was supposed to enjoy his retirement, free from the pressures of his old job, if the accident had never happened.  

“Walang accident, never nakabunggo. Isang maingat na driver na inihahatid ang bawat pasahero niya. Nakakadurog ng puso…Inalay ng ama ko sa maingat na pagmamaneho ang buhay niya pero namatay siya bunga ng reckless driving ng iba… hindi deserve ng father ko na mamatay sa ganun lang dahil inalay niya ang buhay niya sa maingat na pagmamaneho,” she shared.  

Vana wants justice to be served for his father while urging everyone to refrain from driving when drunk or when still having a hangover to avoid the same incident from happening. 

“Sana lang Lord makuha ng father ko ang deserve niya na justice…Wag po kayong mag-drive ng lasing, may hangover, o inaantok. Isang buhay na naman ang nawala dahil dito. Isang ama. Isang ama ulit ang nawala,” she added.  

The young man who was driving an Isuzu D-Max that struck the old man is now in police custody. The latest report from the police disclosed that an investigation is underway regarding the incident.
