Baguio City, Philippines – A con who duped a woman in Benguet over “honey love” scam arrested in Parañaque City through the joint efforts of the authorities led by the Regional anti-cybercrime Unit-Cordillera (RACU-COR) on November 11, 2021.

The suspect was identified as Racel Gonzalez Guno, 43, who is a resident of Sangandaan, Caloocan City. She pretended to be a US Navy using the name Carter Gudson Gudson.

Said suspect was arrested in a condo in Moonwalk, Parañaque City, following a complaint of a woman in Benguet. The authority served her Warrant of Arrest for violating Article 315 of the Revised Penal Code as amended in relation to RA 10175 or Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.

As reported by Bombo Radyo Baguio, PMaj. Annie Carmel Comising, head of the Digital Forensic Section of RACU COR, said that the communication between the victim and the suspect started in September 2019.

Investigation revealed that the victim was looking for a friend on Facebook when she saw a profile picture of a US Navy. She immediately sent him a friend request, not knowing that the account was a fake one and that its owner was also a woman. Since then, they started communicating.

After some months, the suspect, having gained the victim's trust, asked the latter P40,000 in exchange for a package from America, but no package came.

A few months later, the suspect again asked the victim for another P40,000, which she said will be used for their wedding. However, after sending the huge amount of money, the victim could not contact the suspect anymore. It was then that the victim noticed that she was blocked on Facebook.

The victim started to doubt and reported the incident to the police, who immediately investigated the suspect’s bank account in Parañaque. It was then that the authorities learned the identity of the suspect.

A case was filed against the suspect and was later arrested. However, the suspect was able to bail for P30,000.
